Thekkady, one of the best tropical wildlife sanctuaries in the world, your mind becomes cool and light as the breeze around. This nature's bounty in 777 sq. kms. is the repository of rare, endemic and endangered flora and fauna that constitute the rich biodiversity of the place. It also forms the major watershed of the two most important rivers of Kerala - Periyar and Pamba.
You can spot wild elephants, tigers, leopards, gaurs, Nilgiri languar, otters, etc. in this wildlife sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuarie is the home of 62 species of mammals, 320 species of birds, 45 species of reptiles, 27 species of amphibians, and 38 species of fishes is also the homeland of three ethnic tribes - Mannans, Paliyans and Ooralis.

The seasons at Thekkady
September to May is the best season to be in Thekkady. April and May are the hottest months and hence the driest part of the year. So the animals spend a lot of time by the lake. But if you can enjoy the rain, the rest of the season is also fine, and you will find the rain bringing a new drama and a new look to the whole place. Warm clothing is required from October to February since they are cooler months. June and July are rainy months.

It is about 1 km from Kumali in Idukki district, Kerala, which is the southernmost state of India.It is just 180 kms from Cochin International Airport, 265 kms from Trivandrum International Airport, and 165 kms from Madurai Airport. The nearest railhead is at Kottayam, just 110 kms away.
